How to care for a Persian Shield plant
The Strobilanthes Dyeriana, otherwise known as the Persian Shield or Royal Purple Plant is a stunning tropical plant with bright purple metallic/iridescent foliage. Originating in Southeast Asia, the Persian Shield is happiest in dappled sunlight and warm, humid air. It is a relatively easy houseplant, tolerant of most lighting conditions and only requiring water once the top 2 inches of soil dry out.Get one of these yourself!

While not recognized officially as a toxic plant, the Persian Shield has shown in some cases to be mildly irritating to skin.

The Persian Shield prefers to be evenly moist, with a little drying out time between waterings. Be sure to give this plant high humidity (mimicking those tropical jungle vibes) by placing him over a pebble tray or humidifier, and away from vents!

This plant can tolerate many lighting conditions, from partial shade to bright sunlight. Beware: too much direct sun will limit the amount of purple-ness on the leaves!

Fertilize this plant once every 2 weeks in spring and summer with a diluted and balanced fertilizer. Not required in fall or winter!

This plant only needs to be repotted once it's fully outgrown the nursery pot—about every 2-3 years. Only go up about 2 inches in diameter when choosing a new pot, and ensure it has drainage holes.
